The 10-person jury for the LagenCup, consisting of wine journalists and top sommeliers, voluntarily stayed in Berlin for six days to taste and evaluate the wines submitted. More than 200 of the country's top wineries registered 700 single-vineyard wines for this year's LagenCup Weiß 2020. Divided into two teams of five, the jury tasted the wines blindly and according to the 100-point scheme.
PLACE 4: 2019 Bechtheimer Rosengarten, Riesling, Weingut Spiess, RHEINHESSEN
“Certainly the rose garden of the brothers Christian and Johannes Spiess also has plenty of juicy fruit. But it is by no means alone, but is accompanied by a brilliant spice. One juror was even reminded of a wine from the Jura, the best examples of which shine less with fruit than with a pronounced spiciness. The jury agreed on the potential of the rose garden. A note puts it in a nutshell: "Still wild and impetuous, his heyday is yet to come."" (96 points)
