Winegrowing with tradition
Since 1509 our family has been farming in Bechtheim in the Rhine-Hesse region. Today, we brothers Christian and Johannes Spiess run the winery and bring the knowledge we have acquired over generations to our viticulture. However, we don't just rely on tradition, we work continuously to refine our wines. The highest quality and sustainable viticulture have top priority.
Our partners
Partnerships are like a good relationship, which is why we take care of them in the same way.

What distinguishes wines from Bechtheim?
Riesling, as well as white and red Burgundy varieties are among our absolute favourites. We stand for this and have also made a name for ourselves in the German wine scene. Nevertheless, international red grape varieties are also among our specialties.
The estate wines form our basis and are an interesting and perfect introduction to the origin-based quality hierarchy of our winery. Drink-happy everyday companions for every occasion, with charm but without complicated technical discussions. The grapes
for these wines all come from our estate's own vineyards around Bechtheim and Osthofen.
Local and selection wines come from special and selected locations within our local district of Bechtheim. Since every place has its special soil structures and microclimates, you can clearly taste the terroir and the character here. They are a harbinger of our single vineyard wines and a real insider tip - also matured. Red local wines are about 15 months in small oak barrels. Wines that are marked with the "S" for selection on the label also fall under this quality level.
Our wines from the best plots with particular aging potential and expressive location character are referred to as site and reserve wines . We limit the harvest quantity to 40 hl per hectare, harvest is selective by hand. We spontaneously ferment the musts and then leave the young wines until summer
of whole yeast. Red single site wines are around 18 months in small oak barrels. The wines go on sale on September 1st of the year following the harvest. Wines that are marked with the "R" for Reserve on the label also fall under this quality level.
Our Rhenish-Hessian village of Bechtheim is located in a conspicuous basin formation in southern Wonnegau. The perfect mix of pent-up heat, fertile loess loam soil with limestone subsoil and southern sunshine ensures that we produce juicy, complex wines with elegant charm.
